YORK Indoor Bowls Club 'A' are playing a waiting game after finishing their Yorkshire Over-55s League division one season with a 100-51 victory over North Cave Yellow.

The win gave the Thanet Road club a good chance of qualifying for the end of season Challenge Cup, but they must now rely on other results going their way.

The away leg was played first and saw Dave Dale, Barry Walker, Malcolm Thompson and Graham Instone win seven successive ends between the third and ninth, scoring 12 shots to give.

That gave them a lead to build on and they won 26-9.

Dudley Williams, Gordon Walker, Eric Hodgson and Geoff Walker were 14-7 down but came back well to go into their last end 17-15 behind, only to drop a three while chasing the win.

At home, Ray Calpin, Andy Humphreys, Tex Stevens and Graham Brooke only lost six ends as they won 34-8.

Alan Vowles, Malcolm Harrison, Roger Ford and Phil Parsons were trailing 10-8 after ten ends but only lost two more ends and won 25-14.

Tomorrow, York 'B' complete their division two season when they play their home leg against Selby.

After a nightmare game against Huddersfield, York got back to winning ways in the Yorkshire League division two clash, winning all four rinks against New Earswick to take the title.

New Earswick pushed them all the way before York pulled away over the last three ends, scoring 24 shots to only two against to finish 100-51 victors.

At Thanet Road, Phil Herridge, Andy Humphreys, Tex Stevens and Adam Liddell were 20-15 down to Brian Gray's team with four ends to play, but they won 25-20.

Dudley Williams, Nigel Macdonald, Graham Instone and Phil Emmerson were level at 11-11 with Barry Johnson’s side after 13 ends, but won all but one of the remaining ends to finish 24-12 victors.

At New Earswick, Alan Vowles, Malcolm Thompson, Graham Brooke and Paul Mooring only lost seven ends as they won 26-8 against Paul Dawson’s side.

Ray Calpin, Malcolm Harrison, Phil Parsons and Dave Stroughair were level at 19-19 with two ends to play against Bill Waldie's team before scoring a two then a four to finish 25-19.

York will now play division one champions Featherstone in the Challenge Cup on March 28 at New Earswick.

York 'B' lost their last game of the division three season when they lost 83-82 to Leeds 'B', but the seven points they picked up was enough to clinch a top four place and qualify for the end of season Challenge Cup.

In Leeds, Harley Wenham, Ray Wynn, Ron Munro, and Gordon Walker came from 15-10 down to lead 18-15 with two ends to play, but had to settle for an 18-18 draw.

John Birch, Julian Crabb, Paul Craven and Ken Robinson lost 31-13.

At home, Charlie Arnett, John Richardson, Colin Sharpley and Jim Robertson looked to have lost their game when they trailed 19-11 with four ends to play, but two threes then a match-winning seven put them 24-20 ahead before they dropped a single on the last end.

Alan Potter, John Butler, Allan May and Eric Hodgson won 27-14 but were denied the chance to pick up the match aggregate points.
