NEW Earswick 'B' beat visitors Harrogate 'B' 98-53 in Yorkshire League division three to book their place in the Hebdon top four play-offs.

They needed six points to be certain of booking their place and they took 16 points to Harrogate's two.

New Earswick got off to a good start with Joe Barker, Brian Hutton, Vic Thompson and Kevin Potter leading 16-0 after five ends.

After dropping two singles at the next two ends, they picked up 20 shots in the next ten ends and won 36-6.

In the other home game, Gordon Fratson, Brian Hardcastle, John Snowden and Dave Firn only scored one single in the first six ends but hit back to lead 16-8 after 11 ends en route to a 23-17 success.

In the away games, Pat Inwood, Allister Domville, Terry Bellwood and Gary Jones led 15-7 after ten ends and went on to win 25-14.

Ray Boyes, Ken Norman, Dave Hutchinson and Brian Birch got off to a steady start in the final game and led until the 18th end, but lost 16-14.

New Earswick were 77-72 winners over Selby in the North Eastern Ladies League, taking six points to Selby's four.

At home, Kay Hutchinson, Gemma Broadhead, Annette Prosser and Moyra Headley lost the first four ends to go 7-0 down and they failed to fight back as they lost 26-13.

Kath Hardcastle, Irene Warrington, Norma Davies and Majorie Watson won six of the first seven ends to lead 10-1 and, although Selby pulled back to 10-10, New Earswick ran out 23-12 victors.

At Selby, Margaret Pearson, Peggy Walker, Monica Morgan and Margaret Moss won the first five ends to lead 6-0, but only picked up two singles in the next 12 ends to trail and they went on to lose 20-12.

June Barker, Jackie Toms, Carol Williams and Pat Walker had a convincing win, leading 11-1 after seven ends and scoring a five at the 19th end to seal a 29-14 victory.
