HEWORTH beat Fulford 3-2 in the final of the Ted Plant Pairs 'C' Team Snooker competition.
The first frame of the final at Bootham between Fulford's C Simpson and M Taylor and Heworth's J Bedford and N Hodgson looked like going the way of the Heworth pair as they led 46-31.
However, Taylor stepped in to clear the remaining five colours and clinch the frame 56-46.
The second frame between D Brown and D Scott, of Fulford, and Heworth's C Richardson and J Faircliffe saw the Fulford give away 36 points in fouls.
Richardson also took his chances as Heworth ran out 63-19 winners.
The fourth frame finished before the third as Fulford's S Kay and P Dunmore, both playing steadily, were 55-22 victors over F Mallinson and M Robinson.
With Fulford now 2-1 up, the crucial third frame between R Walker and D Beattie, of Heworth, and Fulford's K Chang and R Taylor could have decided the match.
However, Heworth built up a 36-17 lead with only the colours left and Walker secured the frame by potting green, brown and blue, taking the match to a deciding frame.
N Brennand and P Brown, of Fulford, took on Heworth's J McCready and K Batty, with McCready making a strong start.
That was countered by Brennard giving Fulford a slight advantage, but the Heworth pair proved too strong and they won 54-23.
The cup and trophies were presented by Colin Robinson, chairman of the Faber Shield committee, on behalf of sponsor Bob Plant.
