EASI-ROCKITS VX team were edged away from victory in a pre-season friendly against a multi-national University of York VX team.

Following an invitation from the University, player-coach Paul Hildreth took the opportunity to give his Ugandan guests, Hasindihe James and Kanyesigye Gerald their first taste of full-size competitive VX and to give Clarice Bruin the chance to gain experience on a full-size court before the League starts.

York University VX Club are one of the first university clubs to be established and are trained by reigning V2 world champion Jack Brown.

With three inexperienced players and a mix of players that had not played together before, Hildreth knew it would be a tough match.

From the start York tore into their opponents, swarming round them, playing a close game and surging into a 61-53 lead at the first interval.

In the second period Easi made one change, but still could not cope with the York team who took the quarter by six points for a 111-97 half-time advantage.

The Easi ranks came out with renewed vigour and keener discipline and took the quarter by 13 points to trail by a mere 149-148 going into the final period of play.

The final quarter was fast and furious as both teams fought tooth and nail, but the University ranks eased ahead and managed to eke out a 206-203 triumph.
