NO mercy was shown by North Hockey League division one pacesetters City of York in a 7-3 lashing of hosts Leeds II.

The senior York ranks were in irrepressible mood after surviving an intense start with Mike Carter to the fore with four goals.

York scored first through Dan Ellwood after a neat passage of play.

Carter struck his first to double the lead before Alex Cockram made it 3-0 from a penalty flick and Carter notched his second just before half-time.

Leeds quickly reduced the deficit after the restart with further inroads only stopped by goalkeeper Jonathan Doyle.

But Carter notched his hat-trick after rounding the keeper and then struck again from another deflection before Ellwood wrapped up the seven-haul leaving Leeds to gain a late double.

York’s 15th win of the season means they need just one more win to clinch promotion and five more goals to reach a century with City of Manchester up next.

City of York II were forced to share the points at home to Boston Spa in the Yorkshire League premier division.

Twice they took the lead through Dutton from a first-half penalty and then an Oli Fryirs’ tip-in in the second half, only to be pegged back each time, the second leveller netted in the latter exchanges.

A last-gasp goal left City of York III bemoaning a 3-2 defeat to Bradford in division two.

Slipshod defending allowed the visitors to go 3-0 ahead early in the second half, before a comeback inspired by goals from Will de Silva and Matt Todd.

Just one more win and City of York IV will be crowned division four champions after they beat derby hosts York University 2-0 with goals from Greg Sykes and Joel Wilson.

Teen power held sway in City of York VI’s 4-2 trouncing of division five north title-hunters Boston Spa III.

Twice York trailed but they got back with goals from 15-year-old Jack Harrington and 14-year-old Callum Green before sealing the win with another goal from Harrington and the last by James Gibbon after solid work from man of the match Rob Smith.

An eight-goal thriller yielded a share of the spoils in division five north for City of York VII and Acomb II.

And the moral victory went to York who, after surrendering a lead given them in the eighth minute by John Doran, then had to counter three times from deficits to bag a point.

The other York scorers were Matt Besford, Harry Heyes and finally Doran, who finished what he had started.

Acomb II’s marksmen were skipper Jonny Brown (2), Andy Smith and Max Courtis.

Division six north points were also divided between Harrogate V and City of York VIII, for whom Andy Dent netted in a 1-1 draw.

SECOND-HALF power by City of York Ladies Hockey I burned off visitors Timperley in the North League premier division.

In the first half, York ran rings around Timperley and opened the scoring through Rebecca Birch.

Timperley responded quickly to level by half-time.

But once Annabel Lee deceived two defenders to set up Jenna Gallagher to score, the York ranks took command.

Captain Laura Horne scored from a cross from midfielder Lindsey O’Brien before Katie Birch applied an expert finish to nifty approach work from Hannah Lawrence.

Horne rounded off the com prehensive win with her second strike.

City of York ladies II countered from 3-1 down to beat Dewsbury 4-3 in the Yorkshire League pre - mier division.

Corrine Wray’s hat-trick was supplemented by a goal from Tamsin Collingridge.

City of York III ladies 3s continued their division two winning streak with a 2-0 success at home to a strong Slazengers side.

Katie Wilson and Kelly Hunter scored, while defender Lucy Lovisetto excelled on her debut and player of the match was Lucy Lawrence.

Keeper Esme Dowds was the star of City of York V’s 0-0 draw at Doncaster IV in division seven north, where City of York VI beat Leeds V 6-0 with Rebecca Feetenby (3), Sarah Davies (2) and Lily Rowntree on target.

TEN times able were Acomb Hockey Club men’s I who pounded hosts Bingley Bees I 10-0 in Yorkshire League division four north.

There were five goals in each half with man of the match Ryan Forster leading the way with a five-goal haul - the first time for a decade that such a feat had been achieved by a Tangerines’ player.

Matt Dickenson weighed in with a hat-trick and Nick Linfoot a brace to round off Acomb’s precision marksmanship.

It wasn’t totally one-way with goalkeeper Craig Brown excelling and the defence of Baz Whitfield, Dave Bell and Dave Brown dominant.

Acomb ladies gained a second successive division two win when they edged Doncaster III 1-0.

The three points were secured through player of the match Hannah Yoward’s strike. Doughty defence was produced by Wendy Watson and Paula Ridge.
