AT his fourth attempt, York’s Simon Dyson has broken his missed cut barrier.

The world number 133 shot a one-over par 73 yesterday to qualify for the final two rounds of the Maybank Malaysian Open.

Even though that score, combined with his opening day 72, left him 12 shots shy of the leader, Dyson was delighted to have ended his 2015 European Tour jinx.

In his previous three outings this year he failed to straddle the mid-point cut with early exits in the Abu Dhabi Classic, the Qatar Masters and last week's Omega Dubai Desert championship.

The Malton & Norton Golf Club player was level after the opening nine holes yesterday with birdies on the third and ninth holes erased by bogeys on the second and fifth.

He then drifted further out with dropped shots on the par-four 13th and 16th holes before birdying the par-five 18th for his 73.

The halfway lead was held jointly at 11-under by fellow Briton Lee Westwood and Spain’s Alejandro Canizares, who were three shots clear of their nearest pursuers.
