Paul Murray, Eric Cookson, Colin Pickup and Bill Waldie never looked back from an 8-2 lead after five ends to win 25-11, while a late flourish of 12 shots in the last five ends sealed a 27-15 win for the rink of Dave Imeson, Dave Elcock, Dave Clayden and Mick Head.

The division three derby duel between New Earswick ‘B’ and Leeds ended in the latter’s favour by an emphatic 110-62 margin.

At home, Terry Bellwood, Barry Cooper, Dave Hutchinson and Brian Birch were 12-2 in arrears and went on to lose 21-11, while Pat Inwood, Vic Thompson, Bruce Dob - son and Gary Jones were on the wrong end of a 33-22 scoreline.

In the away tie, Joe Barker, Brian Hutton, Dave Moorhouse and Gordon Storey lost 38-8 to ruthless opponents. But that defeat was eased by Brian Hardcastle, Alastair Domville, John Snowden and Dave Firn taking nine of the final ten ends and advance from 10-8 down to win 21-14.

THREE rinks out of four were seized by New Earswick IBC against Leeds in the Yorkshire Ladies League.

The home rink of Lynn Page, Kath Sykes, Sally Domville and Marjorie Watson perished 23-17 to a strong finish after the sides were locked at 13-13 by the start of the 15th end.

However, Margaret Pearson, Maureen Wilson, Annette Prosser and Margaret Moss were always too strong for H Knapton’s rink to compile a worthy 36-19 victory.

At Leeds, Lorna Tordoff, Norma Davies, Carol Williams and Pat Walker shrugged off a first-end loss to power away and win 28-15 ahead of the closest tussle featuring New Earswick’s rink of Doramy Bellwood, Eve Firn, Monika Morgan and Margaret Morgan and that of Leeds’ P Walton.

New Earswick led 22-6 after 12 ends, then led only by 23-22 before notching a decisive three on the last end for a 26-22 triumph.

Ray Calpin, Graham Instone, Mark Clarke and Adam Liddell also dropped a two on their first end, but scored 20 shots, including a six, in the next nine ends. Their opponents hit back, but Liddell’s team rallied and won five of the last eight ends to win 27-16.
