ACOMB 'A' romped to their 12th consecutive York Wednesday Pool League division one title, closing out the campaign with an 8-4 victory over Winning Post.

Acomb needed a draw or better against Winning Post, last year's runners-up, to clinch the title and continue their dominance of the league.

The champions were pushed all the way by Acomb RS, who lost only one of their 18 matches but five draws left them five points adrift in second place.

Former division two champions Holgate WMC and Acomb I were relegated after finishing in the bottom two and will be aiming to bounce straight back up in 2015.

The player of the season title was retained by Simon Newby, last year's multiple title winner, as he won 26 of his 36 frames, closely followed by 'A' team captain Dave Catlow with 25 wins.

Acomb 'A' are still on course for a double as they take on Winning Post in the Team Knockout final on January 28.

Loop 'B' won division two by nine points, while Beagle 'A' were the runners-up and have promoted back to the top flight after only one season in the second tier.

It was tight at the top of the player of the season rankings as Chris Hilton and Simon Morris finished joint first with 28 wins, but Hilton took the title having player fewer games than Morris. Ady Gill was only one frame behind the top two.

Acomb 'H' and bottom club Beagle 'B' were relegated to division three after tight finish. Beagle are still in the hunt for a trophy as they have reached the Plate Team Knockout final in their first season in the league.

Division three winners were Huntington SC, who clinched the title by eight points.

Next in line, in their first season in the league, were Huntington WMC 'B' after winning 11-1 in their final game to clinch promotion. Third place went to Tramways WMC, who missed out by only three points.

Player of the season in division three was Phil Bruce with 25 wins, three frames clear of his three nearest rivals having lost only seven frames.

The presentation night and singles final will be held at The Acomb on February 20 from 7pm.
