MARTYN TURNER came within two victories of reclaiming a place on the PDC Tour at the 2015 qualifying school.

The Rawcliffe arrows ace finished three points short of winning a card in the order of merit placings based on his performances over four days of competition at Wigan’s Robin Park Tennis Centre.

Turner bowed out 5-2 to former World Championship semi-finalist Magnus Caris in the last 32 of the final qualifying tournament when a quarter-final place would have secured a spot on the tour.

Turner had earlier overcome Erik Hol (5-3), Steven Cupitt (5-2) and Michael Wilson (5-0).

His run to the fifth round also represented the closest Turner came to winning an automatic card awarded to anybody making the semi-finals on any of the four days.

The day before, Turner was beaten 5-1 in the third round by last year’s BDO world number one James Wilson, having defeated Jerry Hendricks (5-2) and Paul Milford (5-4).

Both Caris and Wilson went on to qualify for the tour after triumphing against Turner.

In day two of the qualifying school, Turner suffered another third-round loss, going down 5-3 to John Crossley after a victory over BJ Fairhurst (5-1).

On day one, meanwhile, he bowed out 5-2 to former UK Open runner- up Barrie Bates in the fourth round after beating 2001 BDO world cham - pion John Walton (5-3) and Ricky Harding (5-3).

York players Richie Corner, John Quantock and Chris Quantock also competed in the school’s first day, Chris Quantock reached the third round after whitewashing Craig Baxter before losing 5-3 to Hol.

His father John went out one stage earlier, going down 5-2 to Mareno Michels, as did Corner, who beat Lee Cusworth 5-2 before Jon Jukes (5-3) got the better of him.
