THE second half of the York Conservative Clubs’ Carlsberg UK Snooker League season started with a 5-2 victory for Acomb ‘A’ over their ‘B’ team.

Dan Potter gave them the lead with a win over Kevin Ventress, only for Jeff Winter (23 break) to hit back with a black-ball success over Richard Lillie (32 and 24 breaks).

Keith Thornhill retained his 100 per cent record with a win against Nick Goodacre, followed by Nick Marchant (23 break) defeating Brian Henry, and Phil Carlton (25 break) beating Chris Nicholson.

Steve Rodgers managed to pull one back for the ‘B’ team with good safety play in beating Paul Holmes, but luck was against them as Andy Stone potted the black and then saw the cueball go in, handing victory to the ‘A’ team’s Mick Borg.

Acomb ‘A’ now have a nine-point lead over second-placed Heworth ‘A’, who lost 4-3 at home to Fulford ‘A’ .

Andy Marshall (20 break) started the ball rolling for Fulford by defeating Jordan Worobec, but Adam Scaife and Mark Winskill replied for Heworth by beating Jim Lee and Sam Wass.

Glen Mountain (49 break) beat Nick Dyson and Alan Reed’s victory over James Kilmartin put Fulford back in front.

Heworth’s Gary Douglas scraped through with a black ball win over Dollin Mercer, but Sam England clinched victory for Fulford by defeating Steve Burdett in the last match.

Malton ‘A’ hosted Bootham ‘B’ and ran out 4-3 winners with Dominic Spiteri (22 break) leading the way with victory over John Wortley.

Captain Ian Robinson hit back for Bootham, defeating Steve Beal, but wins for Simon Weatherill (40 break) over Paul Scorfield, Dan Pawson over Lionel Barnes and Roger Ward over Matt Smith gave Malton a 4-1 lead.

Bootham took the last two frames with Paul Powell beating Steve Pawson and Andy Proud defeating Phil Hart.

The clash between the bottom two clubs resulted in Heworth ‘B’ beating Fulford ‘B’ 6-1, with only Andy Ogley winning for Fulford.

The winners for Heworth were Dave Beattie, Carl De Pasquale, Simon Whiteley, John Sherlock, Martin Johnson and Peter Rivis.

Thornhill leads the Worthington player of the year standings with eight wins out of eight matches.
