UNIVERSITY of York progressed to the next stage of the Futsal FA Cup after winning through the national qualifying stage.

Having lost 3-0 to FS Derby, York beat Boca Seniors 2-1 and Carlisle 5-3 at the Leeds International Futsal Arena in Millshaw Park to qualify for the mini-league stage, which will take place from January to March and is likely to pitch the North Yorkshire students against Stockport, London Zappsport and Oxford Lion Futsal.

York trailed to a tap-in during their first match against FA National League North second division side Derby, fell further behind following a one-on-one situation and then conceded a third goal from a corner after employing five outfield players, including a fly keeper, for the closing stages.

The Boca team, who were regional qualifiers from Liverpool, also took the lead in their game against York but Miguel Carrera equalised before the end of the first half.

Ewan Minter went on to grab the winning goal during the last minutes following fine one-two play.

York trailed 1-0, 2-1 and 3-2 to Carlisle, meanwhile, before firing in three goals without reply to confirm their continued involvement in the competition.

Felipe Nevado, Adria Gonzalez Marti, Carrera, captain Mahiko Konishi and James Grey all got on the scoresheet.

Under-18 development players Jamie Hallas and Myles Chadwick - the side's new goalkeeper - both impressed throughout.
