TALKS are being held between Wilberfoss Tennis Club and City of York Council aimed at boosting facilities at the club.

The dialogue is at an early stage over the possibility of grants towards improving the facilities around the tennis courts.

Meanwhile, the popular coaching programme for children will resume on Thursday, January 8 and Sunday, January 11 at which all equipment is provided. Classes for the four to seven-year-olds in the community centre are on Thursdays from 4pm to 5pm and for eight to 12-year-olds each Sunday at the tennis courts, whatever the weather, from 2pm to 3.30pm. Cost remains at £5.50 each session for club members and £6.50 for non-members.

Prices for junior club membership have been slashed to - primary school pupils at £10 per year; secondary school pupils £25 per year; full-time education or training £35 per year.

Adult coaching may yet be introduced from March next year, while the club are hosting a ‘safari supper’ on February 28 and a race night at the Pavilion on March 28. Anyone interested in coaching can phone Matt Ward on 07882 267971 or email matt@icanplaytennis.net
