YORK Indoor Bowls Club's run in the Denny Cup came to an end as they lost 93-67 to Cumbria.

York could only boast one winning rink, which came from Neal Macdonald, Ray Calpin, Graham Instone and Phil Emmerson.

They dropped a single then a two on the first couple of ends but, by the seventh, they led 15-3.

That was extended to 23-10 after 13 ends before their opponents hit back, winning all but one of the remaining ends to make the final score 25-23.

Dudley Williams, Nigel Macdonald, Malcolm Thompson and Dave Stroughair were level at 5-5 after five ends, but could only win four more ends and lost their game 25-10.

In Carlisle, Alan Vowles, Phil Herridge, Phil Parsons and Adam Liddell had an excellent game and scored a six on the 16th end to lead 20-15.

However, they came away disappointed as they lost the last five ends to go down 22-20.

Andy Humphreys, Tex Stevens, Graham Brooke, and Paul Mooring won four of the last six ends, but the damage had already been done and they lost 23-12.

York have arranged their Yorkshire Double Rinks preliminary round game against New Earswick for Saturday, January 17, starting at 10am.

Meanwhile, York made light work of their Mason Trophy game against Harrogate as they progressed into the last 32 following a 50-16 victory.

At home, Joan Jackson, Carol Banks, Melanie Brooke and Carol Instone responded to dropping three shots on the first end by scoring 14 without reply.

They only lost a further four ends before the game was conceded by the visitors with two ends to play when the score stood at 29-10.

In Harrogate, Dot Kennelly, Maureen Walker, Helen Walker and Linda Harrison got off to a good start, leading 13-0 after only nine ends then 18-4 after 15 ends.

The game was conceded on the 19th end with the game finishing 21-7.

York now play Redcar in the last 32, with the date still to be arranged.
