HIGH-FLYING City of York Hockey Club men's IV are aiming for the perfect season in Yorkshire League division three.

The club head into the Christmas and New Year break after recording 12 consecutive wins, making them one of only two teams out of 121 in the Yorkshire League to boast a 100 per cent record.

A spokesman said: "Thanks to a combination of pace, passing and inspired team play under the leadership of skipper Barry Legg, York have beaten all the teams in the league.

"Highlights include 8-0 victories over Huddersfield and York University, and beating nearest rivals Sheffield Hallam 4-3 on the Olympic pitch.

"In 12 games, we have scored 62 goals and conceded 13 goals. The goals have been shared around with Greg Sykes (12), Robbie Unsworth (11), Russ Bowry (10) and Henry Wilson (8) leading the charge.

"York will look to continue their run with the aim of a perfect 22-game season."

The season resumes on January 10, with a game at Leeds.
