RAWCLIFFE’S Martyn Turner fell just two wins short of a place in this year’s PDC World Championships.

Turner reached the quarter-finals of the PDPA qualifying tournament, which decides the final two places in the field for the famous Alexandra Palace darts extravaganza.

Whitwell-on-the Hill’s Terry Temple, meanwhile, went out in the last 16.

World number 151 Turner beat Krit Middleton (5-0), Tony Richardson (5-0), Matthew Dennant (5-2) and Adrian Gray (5-4) before being whitewashed by Shaun Griffiths, who is 81 places above him in the PDC Order of Merit.

Temple, meanwhile, enjoyed 5-4 wins against Robert Owen, world number 46 Kevin McDine and four-time World Championship qualifier Steve “The Muffin Man” Hine.

But North Yorkshire’s world number 102 bowed out by the same scoreline to Nick Fulwell, who lies 20 places behind him in the rankings.
