A JUMEIRAH jamboree proved elusive for York’s Simon Dyson at the swansong to the European Tour.

Dyson sampled a bewildering waltzer of a first round at the DP World Tour Championship, the $8 million climax to this year’s calendar.

Especially lurching was the inward nine after the 36-year-old followed dropped shots on the third and fourth holes at Jumeirah Estates in Dubai with a birdie on the ninth.

The York-born ace then went into credit with successive birdies on ten and 11 only then to sway back to level par with a third bogey on the next hole.

His final birdie of the day was bagged on the 14th, but the jitters struck again with another maddening brace of successive bogeys on the 15th and 16th holes.

Dyson’s one-over-par round of 73 earned a tie for 41st place, well adrift of the opening round’s joint leaders - Shane Lowry and Rory McIlroy. Both excelled to lead the field by one shot after each carded a six-under-par 66.
