NEW Earswick bowed out of the Denny Plate against Scarborough with none of the four rinks recording a win.

At home, Graham Lockwood, Bob Barrett, Andrew Fothergill and Brian Gray picked up two threes and a two to lead 8-6 after five ends.

But then they only picked up four more singles to lose 33-12 to P Lees’ rink.

Dave Clayden, Brian Birch, Colin Pickup and Bill Waldie lost the first three ends to go 7-0 down against R Dickens’ team and were 18-7 down after 12 ends before fighting back to lose 23-20.

At Scarborough, both rinks got off to a bad start, but in the second half the tide turned and the visitors started to flow back a little.

Dave Sykes, Dave Hutchinson, Gary Jones and Ralph Tiplady came back from 18-4 down after 13 ends against J Bird to lose 25-16.

Paul Murray, Vic Thompson, Bruce Dobson and skip Graham Bell were 24-1 down against S Taylor after 12 ends but matched their opponents shot for shot in the last nine ends to lose 31-11.

New Earswick also lost to Scarborough in the North Eastern Ladies League, taking two points to their opponents’ eight.

Lorna Tordoff, Gemma Broadhead, Carol Williams and Moyra Headley got off to a slow start to trail 7-1 down after six ends against J Tappin and they lost 18-9.

Lynn Page, Irene Warrington, Maureen Wilson and skip Monika Morgan lost 24-19 against P Miller’s team.

Away, Kath Hardcastle, Moira Ellis, Annette Prosser and skip Majorie Watson were 10-1 down after eight but fought back to trail only 17-15 with two ends to go. However, they dropped four shots to lose 21-15.

Margaret Pearson, Maureen White, Sally Domville and skip Norma Davies were Earswick’s only winning rink, beating Scarborough’s B Foster 24-19 after winning the last four ends.
