THE top two teams clashed in division one of the SLT FM Solutions Ltd York & District Table Tennis League and York RI 'A' beat visiting Coneysthorpe 'A' 8-2.

Coneysthorpe were rocked by the withdrawal of Martin Lowe and Ashley Hodgson, while York RI were missing skipper Mick Wilcockson.

The result was an emphatic triumph for the railwaymen, with Filip Wojtkowiak back on top form with a treble.

Coneysthorpe 'B' had Chris Londesbrough to thank for a welcome 6-4 victory over Clarence 'A' and John Wooldridge was too strong for Clarence 'B' as he led Bootham 'A' to an 8-2 win.

Andy Fletcher celebrated his top-flight debut win three wins as he helped York RI 'B' to a 7-3 victory over University 'A'.

In division two, it was a mixed week for the previously unbeaten Bootham 'C'.

They convincingly dispatched an unbeaten Bootham 'B' team with excellent performances from Ady McClaren and Gareth Bryning.

However, in the shock result of the season, they were brought back to earth by a struggling University 'B', who had Alex McCarthy to thank for a memorable 6-4 triumph.

McClaren lost his 100 per cent singles record with defeats to both McCarthy and the improving Jack Taylor.

Leaders York RI 'C' whitewashed Shepherds 'A' and an unbeaten performance from Pat Swindell was decisive as York RI 'D' thrashed Bootham 'D' 9-1.

John Freeman was on top form as his Ryedale@RI thrashed University 'B' 8-2 but, later in the week, a resurgent Bootham 'D' were too good for Ryedale, with Dave Quinlan leading them to a welcome 7-3 victory.

It was a good week for York RI in the third division.

York RI 'F' leapt to the top of the table after a 9-1 thrashing of Burnholme 'A', while York RI 'G' went one better by whitewashing Burnholme 'B' to move into second place.

Clarence 'D' picked up their second win of the season with an 8-2 defeat of Shepherds 'C'.

Russ Scott played well on his debut and was ably supported by Pete Taylor.

BT 'B' thrashed Crescent 'E' 9-1, while Bootham 'E' needed a treble from Pete Corner to gain a 5-5 draw with Clarence 'C'.

The top two sides in division four clashed this week and it was York RI 'H' who emerged triumphant after John Stokes and Paul Greenwood inspired then to a 7-3 victory over rivals Bootham 'G'.

Mike Dinsdale picked up a fine treble against Wigginton & Haxby but he could not prevent his York RI 'I' slumping to a 7-3 defeat.

Trustmarque dispatched a depleted Crescent 'E' 9-1.

Debutant Hannah Hoskin was too good for York RI 'I'. Supported by Andrew Rouse, she helped University 'C' to a 9-1 victory over York RI 'I'.
