ROWNTREES RUFC battled to a 26-12 victory at Knaresborough in round one of the North Yorkshire Cup.
Trees quickly got their game together with a tremendous driving maul which saw number eight Ben Morrison crash over for a try.
Back came Knaresborough with a converted try, but Trees' pressure in the scrums gave Nick Thompson two penalties for an 11-7 lead at the break.
A rare lapse in defence gifted the hosts a second try, but Trees' forwards dominated and the backs ran well to set up position for prop Ben Chadwick to crash over the line.
The immense pressure of Trees' play helped Thompson cut through to score and convert late on. He then added a penalty to put the seal on a hard-fought victory.
