CITY of York Athletic Club's Tom Bean claimed his first ever senior win in the West Yorkshire Cross Country League at Leeds.

Bean went one better than his second place in the first race of the series and was one of five individual winners for the club.

Always in the lead group, Bean waited until around 400 metres to go to put in a decisive late surge to see off Ian Mitchell, of Longwood, to win by ten metres.

Denis Speck was next home for City of York in 28th place, with club stalwarts Paul Goble (74th), Michael Raynes (88th) and Robert Fox (113rd) following.

First home for the club in the senior women’s race was Becky Wilkinson in 37th place.

The club claimed both individual wins in the under-17 races.

Tyler Hutchinson took command of the men's race just after halfway to win comfortably by around 50 metres and Ella Eadon was similarly strong in the second half to win her race by eight seconds.

The club’s strength in depth at U13 and U15 level was again evident.

Josh Dickinson followed up his opening leg win at the National Cross Country relays with a comfortable win by over 100 metres in the U13 boys race, which is a large winning margin in a race of only three kilometres.

With Toby and Herbert Antcliff in seventh and eighth and Noah Gittens in 16th, the club was easily the first team.

The U13 girls' team had six runners completing the course, with Martha Carlton-Seal leading them home in fifth place.

In the U15 races, Georgia Rothwell was a comfortable winner in the girls' race, while Angus McMillan put in a tremendous sprint finish to see off Elliott Hutchinson as the two City of York runners came second and third.

With five other runners completing the course, the club took another easy team win in the age group.
