UNBEATEN City of York men's I opened up a two point gap on their North Hockey League division one rivals with a 4-3 win at City of Manchester I.

City of Manchester were only one point behind City of York going into Saturday's game at Belle Vue, but a hat-trick from Richie Jenkin and a Ben Bull goal kept York in pole position.

Defender Jenkin opened the scoring, receiving the ball at the top of the 'D' and coolly dispatching it into the bottom corner.

An almost identical goal ten minutes later, with Jenkins again stepping around a defender, made it 2-0.

Possession was maintained by York for the majority of the first half but, when a short corner on the half-time whistle turned into a goal-mouth scramble, the ball was adjudged to have hit a York defender's leg.

The resulting penalty stroke was fired to the left of the goal to give the home side a route back into the game at the interval.

After 12 minutes of the second period, City of Manchester drew level from open play.

Bull restored the lead eight minutes later after the home side were temporarily reduced to nine men as a result of dissent, before Jenkin completed his second hat-trick in four games from another short corner.

With five minutes remaining, York goalkeeper Jonathan Doyle slid out to meet a dangerous ball and travelled further than expected on the drenched surface.

The result was a yellow card and Stephen Paterson stepped in as a replacement.

After being agonisingly close to saving the short corner from the initial yellow, Paterson pulled off a good save in the last minute to deny the hosts a draw.

City of York II claimed their first home win of the Yorkshire League premier division season as they beat Bradford I 3-2.

The Bradford keeper pulled off a spectacular diving save from an early Pat Herriott shot and the visitors then scored against the run of play.

York equalised when a combination of Herriott and a Bradford defender spun the ball past the keeper.

Bradford were quickly down to ten men in the second half when some persistent fouling and back chat resulted in a yellow card.

York capitalised and some good hold up play by Herriott allowed Sam Engleman to find some space in the 'D' and he teed up Chris Dutton for a tap in.

Bradford equalised from a rebound at a short corner but, with Bradford again reduced to ten men, Herriot found the net with five minutes remaining.

Man of the match Al Herriot scored a hat-trick as second-placed City of York III won 4-2 at Worksop I in division two.

York took the lead when Herriott picked the ball up on the 25, rounded the 'D' and skipped past the Worksop defence to find the back of the net.

Worksop levelled when a striker flicked the ball into the net on his reverse shortly before half-time.

Five minutes into the second half, Worksop scored a second goal on the counter attack while York were appealing for a decision in the opposite 'D'.

Shortly after restarting, Herriott was given a yellow card.

A straight strike from the top of the 'D' by Dave Rogers found the end of Matt Todd's stick to deflect the ball past the Worksop keeper to bring the scores level yet again.

A third goal came when Todd hit the ball into the 'D' and a deflection by Herriott turned the ball past the keeper.

York attacked again and were rewarded with yet another Herriott goal.

City of York IV trounced Huddersfield III 8-0 in division three.

City were 5-0 up at half-time en route to a second successive eight-goal haul.

Greg Sykes, Russell Bowry and Henry Wilson all netted twice, while Joel Wilson and Robbie Unsworth got one each, and there was a second straight clean sheet for Nathan Wilson.

Goals from Graham Cook and Ollie Sanderson earned City of York V a 2-0 win over Mirfield I in division four north.

City of York VI lost 2-1 at home to Adel IV in division five north, while City of York VII were beaten 6-2 at Ben Rhydding V in the same division.

City of York VIII were unable to raise a team to play Bradford III and were forced to concede the division six north fixture.

City of York Badgers showed great spirit in a 6-0 defeat against Harrogate.

Harrogate led side 2-0 at the break, both goals from direct strikes at short corners.

Jacob Birch and Zack Perryman went close to scoring for York, but Harrogate controlled possession in the second half and extended their lead, despite some good saves from Alex Morton.
