CITY of York ladies I erased their recent poor form with a 2-0 victory over Lancaster I in the North Hockey League premier division.

York, chasing their second win of the campaign, were fired up and started to pile the pressure on Lancaster from the off.

Emma Brough proved unbeatable in the centre, giving York the opportunity to work both sides of the pitch to put pressure on the opposition defence.

The hosts had several goalscoring opportunities from short corners, but were unable to convert them into goals.

The first goal came from the great stick skills of Katie Birch, who opened the goal up for a straight strike.

Short sharp passes between the York attackers created the second goal as Emily Gee slotted the ball past the Lancaster keeper.

In the second half, Jenna Gallagher proved too quick on several occasions as she drove the ball up the left-hand side.

After one raid, she found Laura Horne and she struck a deflected ball in the air but the Lancaster keeper did well to keep the ball out.

The win leaves City of York eighth in the premier division table after six games.

The remainder of City of York's ladies teams were without fixtures in the Yorkshire League.

City of York II are sixth in the premier division with games in hand on the majority of the teams above them in the table.
