THE White stuff came to the fore in round three of the York Union of Golf Clubs’ Cross Trophy at Scarthingwell GC.

Richard White filled in as a late substitute to partner Steve Bellerby, who was then delighted when the Heworth GC pair walked off with top honours having posted a superb 64.

Second spot went to the Easingwold GC pairing of Andy Pepper and Bob Boyle, whose 65 was matched by Andy Vis and James Houghton of York GC. They had to settle for third spot on count-back.

A sign of the gusty conditions was how one unfortunate pairing at Scarthingwell carded a better-ball score of ten on one hole.

Cross Trophy four was held on the same wind-lashed day at Flaxby Park, where Fulford GC players held sway.

Fulford’s highest finishers at Scarthingwell were down in 14th place, but the club atoned in fine style at Flaxby Park filling three of the leading eight positions.

They were spearheaded by Shaun Dalby and Mike Free, who picked up the £100 first prize after carding a 66.

That put them one stroke clear of the host club axis of Stephen Simpson and Mike Bridge.

Third place went to Malton & Norton GC duo Richard Brown and Ian Johnson.

Fulford’s high showing kept them top of the league table with an aggregate of 736 from 11 cards amassed from the first four Cross Trophy rounds.

They lead Kirkbymoorside GC and Malton & Norton by 13 with both on 749, with The York a further stroke back.

Rounds five and six of the Cross Trophy will be held at Kirkbymoorside and York GC’s respectively on Sunday, November 2.

YUGC have also organised a ladies’ stableford competition at Aldwark Manor GC on Wednesday, November 5.
