YORK City ladies were knocked out of the FA Cup after losing 1-0 to Whitley Bay.

First-half chances saw Hannah Buck test Bay’s keeper and Jess Barnes find the sidenetting, while Megan Bramham rattled the crossbar with a sweetly-struck shot following midfielder Nicky Brown’s great through ball Sara Renfrew also played in Lauren Shuttleworth who was unlucky not to find the back of the net.

At the other end, Whitley created better opportunities before the break but failed to threaten York keeper Chloe Precious’ goal.

The defining moment arrived four minutes into the second half when York midfielder Beth Clayton was shown a yellow card for her late tackle and Whitley scored from the subsequent free kick.

Bramham and Ruth Brazier could not respond with free kicks of their own, meaning the Minster Ladies made their exit from this year’s competition.
