LEEDS head coach Steve Evans insists his squad are in "good shape" ahead of tomorrow's Yorkshire derby at resurgent Rotherham.

On-loan winger Mustapha Carayol is due to rejoin the squad today after featuring in both of Gambia's Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers against Mauritania.

Evans also confirmed that defender Liam Cooper, who was an unused substitute in Scotland's 1-0 friendly victory over Denmark earlier in the week, is "100 per cent" ready to return to the starting line-up following a brief stint out of the side through injury.

The Whites boss said: "The players that have been away have all reported back in good shape. We're only waiting on Mustapha Carayol because of the long flight and the scheduling of it.

"He is due back in the UK and training with us this morning. He's in good shape as well, they tell us. Everyone else is back and ready to go."

Midfielder Lewis Cook, meanwhile, dropped to the bench last time out against Huddersfield, prior to featuring in all three of England Under-19s' elite-round fixtures in Spain over the past week.

Evans had requested for Cook's game time to be limited for the Young Lions in a bid to keep him fresh for league action.

But the Leeds head coach understood England's eagerness to play the midfielder in all three of their crucial matches as they went on to secure a place at the summer's European Championships.

"With the exception of young Cookie, I don't think any of the players (on international duty) had too much game time," said Evans.

"We asked England for Cookie's game time to be marginalised – but they had to win. Playing Cookie gives you a chance to win it and, of course, they did."

Elsewhere, striker Chris Wood is pushing for a first start since January after recently returning to the first-team fold following a two-month lay-off with a damaged hamstring.
