LEEDS United boss Steve Evans has taunted Rotherham counterpart Neil Redfearn that he could be one game away from the sack.

Redfearn, who replaced Evans as Millers manager in October, stated in the wake of Tuesday's 2-0 defeat at Huddersfield that his side were not good enough to stay in the Championship and were undone by poor summer recruitment.

Evans, now in the job Redfearn departed in the summer, took offence to those comments and came out firing ahead of Leeds' trip to Wolves tonight.

"I could have said that here, couldn't I, but I have got too much professionalism about myself," he said.

"I have read those comments and it just sounds like a man as if he is under extreme pressure and wonders what happens if he loses the next one."

Evans left the Millers in September after two successive wins but they masked what was a poor start to the season, with many of his 15 signings failing to impress.

Redfearn has found life tough since taking over, picking up just seven points in 11 games, and his side will spend Christmas in the relegation zone.

The Millers boss said in the wake of his side's disappointing loss at the John Smith's Stadium: "This squad of players isn't good enough at this level, it's as simple as that.

"This is common knowledge – we are second from bottom, we just scraped by last year, probably didn't recruit very well in the summer.

"We let good players go, (Kari) Arnason, (Craig) Morgan, (Alex) Revell, (Ben) Pringle, better players than what we have got. We brought in players who are sub-standard in the summer and now we are left with this.

"This might sound a bit harsh but these are the facts."

Despite his claims about not talking negatively about the squad he inherited at Leeds, Evans said his new side could be drawn into a relegation battle if they did not recruit.

Speaking after the Whites' home defeat to Blackburn at the end of October, he said: "We won't get sucked in (to a relegation fight). I've come here to sort it out.

"Let's be honest, if the actual playing squad was left, it would be a battle to stay in the division, but we are going to address some of that."

Leeds are able to call on captain Sol Bamba once more for tonight's trip to Molineux.

Bamba has been out of action for over a month after fracturing his toe but, after a week of full training, he is ready to return for a Whites team that has only won once on the road since September.

"Sol has come through a week of intensive training to link up with the rest of the squad this week," said Evans.

"That's a big plus point for us as it boosts the competition for places in central defence and you always want to have your captain fully involved."
