OLD Malton St Mary’s and Huntington Rovers took full advantage of a free week for leaders Dunnington in the York Minster Engineering Football League premier division.

The two sides won on Saturday to go above Dunnington and into joint-first place in the table, while a third consecutive defeat for Copmanthorpe has virtually ended their title hopes.

Huntington travelled to Dringhouses on the back of two successive away defeats, but boasting a good record against their hosts having lost only once in their last eight meetings.

A rare Lee Jackson goal – his first league strike since last March – gave Huntington the lead at the break before Chris Dyson’s 25th league goal of the season wrapped up a 2-0 win.

Old Malton were never in any danger of surrendering their unbeaten run of 22 matches as they hit eight unanswered goals past Riccall, with Danny Fogg scoring twice in each half.

The Ryedale side’s tally was completed with goals from Neil Wilford, Darren and Richard Dunning and Scott Preston.

Riccall have now failed to score against Old Malton in their last four fixtures.

Chris Storey converted a penalty inside five minutes for Copmanthorpe at Rowntrees, but his side failed to capitalise on their early advantage as they lost 4-1.

The hosts netted through Ken Davis (2), Chris Johnson and Kev Butler.

Two goals from Eddie Clapham – the second two minutes from time – helped Wigginton to record their first away win of the year as they beat York RI 2-1.

Mark Woodward’s 26th goal of the season was RI’s reply.

Wilberfoss and Hamilton Panthers shared the points for the third time in their last four meetings, drawing 1-1.

Jimmy Clamp gave the Panthers an early lead with a penalty, but that was cancelled out by George Thompson’s goal early in the second half. Bottom-of-the-table Keystones ended a run of seven games without a win as they defeated Poppleton United 5-3, re-igniting their hopes of avoiding relegation. On target for Keystones were Harry Hewson (2), Jack Hugill (2) and Lee Winslow, with Alex Janes (2) and Luke Berridge replying for Pop.

Division one leaders Terrington Glory extended their advantage with a 1-0 win over Heworth.

Glory were pushed all the way by a spirited performance from their bottom of the table foes, but Ben Richardson struck the only goal on the hour mark.

Pocklington finally ended their goal famine away from home with a 3-1 win at Post Office.

They were gifted an own goal after only 27 seconds – their first on their travels in almost eight hours.

Amos Laverack scored for Post Office. Tockwith beat Bishopthorpe 3-1 with goals from Graham Hutchison, Andy Walker and Ben King, from the penalty spot.

St Clement’s are without a win in eight games after losing 4-1 at home to Selby RSSC.

After a goalless first half, the Selby side raced into a three-goal advantage courtesy of two goals from Rob Friar and a Chris Coxen effort.

Gary Watkins reduced the arrears, but Craig Dickenson sealed the win with a late goal.
