Tadcaster Albion to resurrect their title target

JOLTED by January blues Tadcaster Albion have re-affirmed a feisty February mission to resurrect their title target.

After spurning several strong chances to grab top spot in the Northern Counties East League premier division, Albion manager Paul Marshall declared the summit could still be attained and that an end of season crowning glory could yet be theirs.

Marshall insisted the current Arctic freeze was the only factor putting their title dream on ice, with tomorrow’s home game, which pitches the sixth-placed hosts against seventh-placed Parkgate, vulnerable to the Siberian snap.

“We have not given up on winning the league. I know people have said we’re seven points behind, but that’s nothing,” said the Albion chief.

“I’ve looked at all the remaining fixtures and who has still got to play who. Everybody’s going to drop points. Everyone’s going to have a poor run.

“We’ve had a blip in January, but now it’s up to us to get over it and put another great run together like we did before Christmas.”

The Albion boss said the loss of last week’s fixture as the cold snap struck with a vengeance could prove valuable.

“It’s given us a little rest and a bit of time to take stock. We can look to start afresh and hopefully put together a very good February. I believe if we win our next four games we will have a great chance of winning the league.”

High hopes are expected of recent recruit Tom Corner, whose international clearance after playing in Spain has been finalised.

“I believe he is the type of player who will answer the appeal for more goals.

“He had three years at Grimsby and played some football in Spain, but he is still a young lad,” added Marshall.

And in a further attacking bonus, top scorer Carl Stewart should have recovered from a back injury to try to form a profitable partnership with new boy Corner.

Bottom-placed Selby Town also have a new weapon in their armoury.

The Robins, who have shown signs of a revival under manager Graham Hodder until last week’s enforced weather-break, have signed striker Roy Fogarty from Brighouse.

He goes straight into contention for the visit of ninth-placed Thackley tomorrow, provided the weather relents.
