Selby Town’s Derry Robson gets in a tangle with a Winterton Rangers foe in Saturday’s 2-1 Flaxley Road win
BASEMENT side Selby Town ended a run of ten straight defeats with a stunning home win over Winterton Rangers in the Northern Counties East League premier division.
The Robins have to go back 12 matches to their previous victory – a 3-1 Flaxley Road win over Armthorpe Welfare on November 5.
But Town toppled fourth-placed Winterton with two late goals to give Graham Hodder his first win since succeeding Dave Heard in the Selby hotseat.
Graeme Severn put the visitors in front on 36 minutes, but Craig Aspinall levelled from the penalty spot on 81 minutes and Ben Slater bagged the winner in the last minute.
Selby are now two points behind Maltby Main, who lost 1-0 to Thackley, and eight points adrift of third from bottom Lincoln Moorlands, who went down 3-1 at Scarborough Athletic.
Athletic’s win, courtesy of goals from Ryan Blott (2) and Adam Lee leaves them in fifth place on the same number of points as sixth-placed Tadcaster Albion.
Paul Marshall’s Albion side, who have stuttered in recent weeks, drew 1-1 at Liversedge.
Former York City junior Nick Thompson got an equaliser on the stroke of half-time for the Brewers after Nathan Cartman had given Liversedge a 32nd-minute lead.
Albion travel to Barton Town Old Boys tomorrow (7.45pm) in the semi-finals of the President’s Cup.
Pickering Town’s revival continues apace after a thumping 5-0 home win over Nostell Miners Welfare.
Steve Baxter put the Pikes on the road to victory with a 21st-minute opener and Simon Sturdy made it 2-0 three minutes before the break.
Baxter struck again three minutes into the second period and Jonathan Brown got the fourth on 59 minutes.
The goal spree was completed by Tom Adams, who netted on 71 minutes.
Manager Jimmy Reid has now steered his side to 11 points from six matches since returning to the club.
Harrogate Town picked up a priceless three points at home to fellow strugglers Hinckley United in Blue Square Bet North.
Former Tadcaster player Rob Youhill gave Town a 12th-minute lead and Richard Pell added a second five minutes later.
Andre Gray pulled a goal back for Hinckley on 55 minutes but, despite the sending off of Stephen Turnbull, Harrogate managed to hang on.
Harrogate Railway Athletic lost 2-0 at home to Skelmersdale United in Evo-Stik League division one north.
Shaun Tuck opened the scoring on 48 minutes and the visitors wrapped up the points at Station View with Josh Hine’s 85th-minute goal.
