Poppleton halt Old Malton’s 12-game run in Minster Engineering Football League


TITLE-CHASING Old Malton St Mary’s are reeling from their first York Minster Engineering Football League premier division defeat in 12 games.

The Ryedale side were beaten 2-1 at home by Poppleton, who were given the perfect start with an own goal on three minutes.

St Mary’s player Rob Pinder was then sent off for two yellow card offences.

Ben Janes doubled Poppleton’s lead two minutes into the second period, while Old Malton’s only response was a Dave Bell penalty five minutes from time.

Leaders Dunnington are unbeaten in 13 games after a 1-0 win at bottom side Wilberfoss, thanks to a Robert Chipps goal on the hour.

Haxby United bagged their first win in four games, beating Kartiers 2-1.

United fell behind to a Gareth Roberts goal, but Steve Ward levelled before the break and Chris Dyson came off the bench to hit a volleyed winner.

Defending champions Hamilton Panthers extended their unbeaten run to seven games as they trounced York St John 7-1.

The tally included five goals for Mark Woodward and one apiece for Mark Triffitt and Liam Stilgoe.

Copmanthorpe followed up their midweek success at Kartiers with a 5-3 home win over Riccall with goals from Joel Dixon and Alex McCraie to add to a Robin Bedford hat-trick.

Tadcaster’s Darren Wilson fired a last minute winner to seal a 3-2 home success over Huntington.

James Rawlings and Phil Smith had earlier scored for Tad, only for Huntington to level with a Pete Laidlaw penalty and a Danny Franks volley.

Dringhouses ended a run of six away games without a win as they beat Wigginton 3-1.

Two first-half goals from Carl Stewart put Dringhouses in control before Scott Stewart reduced the deficit on the hour. Andy Barkway confirmed the win deep into injury time.

The top-of-the-table clash in division one between leaders Malton & Norton and York RI finished 2-2.

Second-placed RI were 2-0 up thanks to a goal in each half from Dave McNichol and Lee Powell, but Andy Thornton and Brian Howe scored in the closing half hour.

Post Office needed a late goal to snatch a point from a 3-3 draw with ten-man Pocklington. James Bonarious netted twice for Post Office and Richard Walton also scored.

Thorpe United drew 2-2 at Easingwold. Dave Adams hit both the hosts’ goals, with Lee Carter and Bobby Moore scoring for Thorpe.

Tockwith were the only side in the top seven to collect maximum points as they hammered Bishopthorpe 7-2.

Graham Hutchison hit a hat-trick, John Richardson got two and there were also goals from Jamie Perkins and Robert Wilson, Jason Davis. Andy Haigh replied for Bish.
