Old Malton St Mary’s beat Copmanthorpe to claim second place in Minster Engineering Football league

THE fixture pile-up in the York Minster Engineering Football League went from bad to worse as another 30 games were lost to the weather.

The league have already announced an extension to the campaign after the number of outstanding games passed the 200 barrier.

Only one game survived the downpours in the premier division and Old Malton St Mary’s took full advantage.

They moved into second place by extending their unbeaten run to 11 games with a 2-1 home win over Copmanthorpe.

After a goalless first half, the deadlock was broken three minutes into the second period when Rob Pinder fired home a 25-yard free-kick.

Dave Bell doubled the hosts’ lead with a header and Cop pulled a goal back five minutes from time through Tom Settle.

Malton & Norton reclaimed top spot in division one following a 4-2 home win over Nestlé.

The visitors were in front at the break through Carl Stewart, but goals from Brian Howe and Damien Cox swung the game in favour of the hosts.

Stewart’s second goal brought Nestlé level, but a second goal for Cox and a last-minute effort from Nicky Drew sealed the win for Malton. Easingwold Town remain unbeaten at home this season, but they also had to come from a goal behind at the break to beat Pocklington 3-1.

Two goals from Nick Thorn, the first a cracking 35-yard effort, and one from Dave Adams mean Pocklington are still waiting for their first win over Easingwold in five meetings.

The only fixture to survive in division two saw St Clement’s inflict a 4-0 defeat on hosts Terrington Glory.

Saints’ reward for ending Glory’s 16-match home unbeaten run was pole position in the table.

Lewis Cannon put the visitors in front before the break and second half goals followed from Paul Selby, Liam King and an own goal.
