Selby Town management aiming to end on a high

SELBY Town management duo Bob Lyon and Gary Cygan are determined to bow out of Flaxley Road on a high note.

Manager Lyon has announced he will quit the Northern Counties East League premier division club at the end of the season.

Assistant boss Cygan is expected to leave with Lyon, citing work commitments as a bar to him moving into the hot-seat.

Now Cygan is determined that the pair’s final campaign should end in glory, with the Robins still in the President’s Cup and League Cup and riding high in the league.

“It would be good to go out on a high,” he said.

“Bob has put a hell of a lot into the club and Counties football, so that would be a good end for him.

“We are in two cup competitions and challenging in the top six in the league, so hopefully we can get a run going.”

Shedding some light on the reasons for Lyon’s departure, Cygan added: “It is nothing to do with the football side of things because we both feel we’ve got the best group of players we’ve had in 12 years.

“There are other things happening outside Bob’s influence.

“I will review my position towards the end of the season, but I am not interested in the manager’s job at the moment. The important thing is getting some results.”

Andrew Hart is expected to miss tomorrow’s Flaxley Road clash with Maltby Main after his midweek knee operation was cancelled.

Pickering Town have injury worries ahead of their home clash with title-chasing Rainworth.

Striker Liam Salt, who has scored 11 goals in 13 games, is likely to miss the rest of the season with a serious knee injury, while Andy Park and Lyle Hillier are struggling with groin problems.

The Pikes’ North Riding Senior Cup quarter-final against Middlesbrough has been switched to Mill Lane and will be played on Tuesday, February 16 (7.45pm).

Scarborough Athletic are away to Hallam tomorrow while, in division one, Tadcaster Albion travel to Yorkshire Amateur looking to get their promotion campaign back on track with their first win since November.

Harrogate Town are aiming to avenge a 4-0 home defeat by Alfreton when they travel to Derbyshire in Blue Square North.
