Wins for top York Minster Engineering Football League teams


ALL five of the top York Minster Engineering Football League premier division sides recorded wins.

Leaders Dunnington pushed their unbeaten run into double figures with a 2-0 win at Tate & Lyle Selby, with goals from Tom Richards and Robert Chipps.

Second-placed Haxby United’s unbeaten start to the season looked in danger as they trailed to a Jon Beech goal at the break at home to Poppleton but Chris Dyson, scoring for the fifth game on the bounce, equalised and Ashley Hill ensured the unbeaten record remained intact with the second half winner.

A Danny Penrose brace gave Dringhouses a flying start at Old Malton, but the hosts rallied through strikes from James Shepherd, Ryan McGinty and subs Rob Pinder and Neil Wilford for a 4-2 win.

Gareth Roberts scored twice as Kartiers registered their second successive 5-1 win over Wigginton Grasshoppers, while Mark Woodward scored a brace for the third game on the trot as Hamilton Panthers side won 3-0 at Copmanthorpe, where Liam Stilgoe was also on target.

Division one pace-setters Malton & Norton chalked up their fifth straight win as they defeated Bishopthorpe 2-1 with a winner in the last minute.

Mick Heels scored for the sixth game on the trot as he gave second placed Post Office the half-time lead at Thorpe but the hosts levelled within three minutes of the restart through Danny Mustill.

It was a good day to travel in division two as all four visiting sides won.

Lee Bunce took his tally of league goals for the season to 19 as his fourth hat-trick helped his Heworth rattle Aviva 6-2.

St Clement’s ran riot at Osbaldwick winning 10-1 with goals from Scott Nicholas (3), Jordan Hornby (2), Lewis Cannon (2), Dean Farrow, Danny Peace and Lewis Bootland.

F1 Racing conceded a last-minute own goal as they drew 3-3 with division three hosts Barmby Moor.

LNER Builders let slip a two-goal lead as they drew 2-2 with Wheldrake, whose scorers were Robin Rushton and Stephen Rawlinson. Tudor Carrington hit both Builders’ goals.

Title-chasing Cliffe triumphed 4-3 in a fluctuating game at Civil Service.

The Selby side forged into a 2-0 lead through Ben Rawson and Paul Fenton, but Civil Service hit back through Andy Tomlinson and James Wendell.

Andy Addison restored Cliffe’s advantage with ten minutes remaining, only for Civil Service to level again through Oliver Cook.

Cliffe captain Scott Birch won the game with a superb free-kick.

York St John relinquished top spot in reserve ‘A’ after a 5-2 defeat at Dunnington.

Danny Little (2), Dan Hall, Andy Rose and Simon Castle shared the goals, with Josh Humpleby and Jack Ward replying.

Reserve ‘B’ leaders Thorpe United lost 2-1 at Heworth. Gareth Sullivan hit both Heworth goals.
