Selby Town overcame the shock of manager Bob Lyon’s impending departure to win 1-0 at Brodsworth Welfare in the Northern Counties East League premier division.
Scott Pickles netted the only goal of the game on 53 minutes for the Robins, who have already launched their season for a new manager.
Long-serving boss Lyon has resigned but has agreed to stay on until a replacement is found.
A club spokesman said: “Although we tried to change his mind, we respect his decision and would like to thank him for the exceptional work he has put into Selby Town during his tenure.”
Pickering Town’s trip to Maltby Main and Scarborough Athletic’s home clash with Long Eaton United were both postponed.
In division one, Tadcaster Albion were held to a 1-1 draw by lowly Grimsby Borough at Ings Lane.
Former Haxby United striker Darren Brandon gave the hosts the lead on 34 minutes, but Borough grabbed a point through Dean Newby on 61 minutes.
Albion host Bottesford Town tomorrow (7.45pm) in the semi-finals of the Wilkinson Sword Trophy.
Harrogate Town’s trip to Hyde in Blue Square North was postponed due to a frozen pitch.
Harrogate Railway Athletic went down 2-0 at promotion-chasing Colwyn Bay in UniBond League division one north.
Ian Sheridan and Alex Titchiner scored the goals in the closing 15 minutes against Railway, who are due to host Curzon Ashton tonight (7.45pm).
