Tadcaster Albion eye up a Scarborough Athletic boost

CASH-STRAPPED Tadcaster Albion are aiming for a positive result on and off the field when they host Scarborough Athletic tomorrow.

The visit of the runaway Northern Counties East League division one leaders should attract the biggest crowd of the season to Ings Lane.

And, after toppling third-placed Pontefract Collieries last weekend, manager Paul Marshall is convinced his side are capable of inflicting the Seadogs’ second defeat of the season.

“We were outstanding at Pontefract,” said the manager. “We passed them off the field and, if we can carry on with that level of performance, we can give anybody a game.

“We went to Scarborough earlier in the season and played well but lost 7-0. They score a lot of goals. They’ve got good forwards and get the ball from back to front quickly.”

Former Albion striker Danny Gray has struck up a partnership with 25-goal leading marksman Ryan Blott as Scarborough have swept all before them this season.

Marshall added that a large crowd could provide a cash lifeline for Tadcaster, who have played at home only once in eight games after two Ings Lane postponements.

“We are still on the breadline at Tadcaster so it would be great to get a big crowd in, get some money in and get some bills paid,” he said.

“We’ve had no revenue because of all the away games and we need to get some of the bills sorted out. This game could be a lifeline for us.”

Ryan Watson showed no reaction after playing 15 minutes against Pontefract as he returns from knee surgery, while Paul James has also made a successful return from injury.

In the premier division, second-placed Selby Town travel to fifth-placed Bridlington looking for their sixth win in seven matches.

Pickering Town’s defence will be bolstered by the return of centre-back Michael McNaughton for the visit of basement side Eccleshill United.

Eccleshill have won only once this season, but Pikes chairman Tony Dunning is not expecting an easy ride at Mill Lane. “We won 4-0 at their place in October, but they are always a competitive side,” said Dunning.

Harrogate Town will be looking to bounce back from their 4-1 mauling by Alfreton when they host Stafford Rangers at Wetherby Road in Blue Square North.

Former York City midfielder Darren Dunning, who was sent off last week, will feature in tomorrow’s game before missing the game at home to Stalybridge on January 31.

Harrogate Railway Athletic’s recent revival in UniBond League division one north will be tested when they travel to Lancaster City tomorrow.
