A NOTABLE hat-trick has propelled trainer Ruth Carr to her best week in racing.

The Stillington handler, who took over the reins of Mowbray House Farm from her retired grandfather David Chapman at the start of the year, sent out three winners, a second and a third from just six runners last week – the best sequence of her short career.

It is only eight months since Carr, who was previously assistant to Chapman, assumed full control of affairs but she has enjoyed a bright start and has trained a total of ten winners, and gathered a glut of place showings.

Her sensational seven days started with a double at Hamilton, with jockey Andrew Elliott profitting thanks to 50-1 Sunley Sovereign in the betXtra at totesport Handicap.

Moheebb, the 7-2 favourite, then delivered for Carr, and Elliott, in the totesport betXtra Win Only Handicap.

When new recruit Top Jaro made all to win the one-mile, one-furlong Musselburgh News Claiming Stakes at Musselburgh, it capped a fantastic streak also boosted by a second place for Raccoon in the RSP Consulting Engineers Handicap and Avountuur’s third at Redcar in midweek.

Carr said: “I was delighted to train my first double at Hamilton Park. Moheebb has been unlucky several times this season and Sunley Sovereign has only just come to himself after being fitted with a breathing tube.

“I’m more than happy with the results we’ve got so far this year. Not only have we sent out ten winners, but 15 seconds and 12 thirds. Of course, I have to thank granddad, but also the owners who left the horses with me when he retired.”
