FOR those that can wait until the penultimate race of the day, Blazed looks a fair bet in the Matchbook Betting Podcast Handicap at Kempton.

The four-year-old hails from a decent family but made a belated start to racing, skipping a juvenile campaign before making his racecourse bow at Wolverhampton last May.

While it took him six attempts to get off the mark for Roger Charlton, there was plenty to like about his initial win at Dunstall Park as not only was he slow to break but he also endured a slightly troubled passage through the race.

A 2lb rise for a nose victory seemed a bit harsh but he showed he is capable off such a perch when second next time out, while the race perhaps did not really pan out his favour when fourth last time.

Slow starts have become his hallmark so far, but he if can get away a bit sharper, he should be featuring in the shake-up.

First Contact won a moderate event at Newcastle on his debut earlier this month, but he can show he is better than that bare form by winning again in the Matchbook Casino Novice Stakes.

He clearly relished the seven-furlong trip, despite having more of a sprinting pedigree, and can go in again for Charlie Appleby before perhaps going down the handicap route.

Ambient has hit the bar three times in four starts but can finally enjoy his moment in the sun in the 32Redsport.com Novice Median Auction Stakes at Lingfield.

Switching up to a mile seemed to suit him when last seen, when he was beaten just a neck after taking a keen hold in the early exchanges.

If he can settle a bit better here, a jump up to 10 furlongs would not be a negative.

Mount Mews enjoyed an easy victory on his fencing bow at Doncaster earlier this month and he can follow up in the Sky Bet Top Price Promise Novices' Chase back at that track.

Grade One-placed over hurdles for Malcolm Jefferson, the seven-year-old was a seven-length winner in a moderate three-runner affair on Town Moor when the lack of a real pace probably was not really to his liking.

He jumped well enough that day and there is every reason to think he can win again here before heading on to bigger targets.

Protek Des Flos clearly appreciated moving back to the smaller obstacles when winning last time and he can start to really thrive in the Pertemps Network Handicap Hurdle at Huntingdon.

He has twice been tried over fences now and has failed to sparkle on either occasion, so it makes sense to stick to hurdles and this looks a good opportunity.

Protek Des Flos bagged a race like this at Wincanton on Boxing Day, triumphing by two and a quarter lengths but looking really good value for the winning margin.

A 5lb hike does not look too harsh for that success and Protek Des Flos can strike again for Nicky Henderson.
