TOM Clover has earmarked the Julia Graves Roses Stakes at York as a potential next port of call for Declarationoflove.

The Newmarket handler believes the five-furlong Listed prize on August 26 would be a suitable target for the son of Declaration Of War following his runner-up finish in the Weatherbys Super Sprint at Newbury last Saturday.

Clover was pleased to see his charge show his true colours in Berkshire after he finished down the field in the Windsor Castle Stakes at Royal Ascot last month.

Clover said: "It was a brilliant day and it made the world of difference for us. He is a lovely horse and was the first one we purchased on spec.

"The handicapper has put him up 10lb for that and he is now off 89. I am not sure I like the idea of going into a nursery off that mark.

"What he wants is a flat five furlongs, like at Newbury, and a strong pace to aim at. There are a couple of Listed races we could look at and one is the Roses Stakes at York.

"It is worth £65,000. I am sure the owners would like to go to York and I wouldn't mind going there. He has come out of his last race as fresh as paint and he deserves his chance at that level.

"To have a horse like him in my first season has just been fantastic."
