Here, the Press looks at five things we learned from Wings of Eagles' shock Investec Derby triumph....

1. IN THE PRESENCE OF GREATNESS

While Aidan O'Brien is the most unassuming man you could ever come across, there is no denying the fact that when he eventually retires he is sure to leave records behind which will be very hard to break. Admittedly, the backing of the Coolmore partners puts him in a position virtually every trainer in the land would envy, but there is no denying the man has a touch of genius about him. Wings Of Eagles provided him with a sixth Derby, one behind Robert Watson, John Porter and Fred Darling.

2. SUCCESS FOR THE ULTIMATE TEAM MAN

On Padraig Beggy's Twitter biography he describes himself as "jockey/golfer" and to that he can now add Derby winner. A key component of the huge operation at Ballydoyle, he is one of those unsung heroes every stable has - only now he has won the biggest Flat race of them all. Used only sparingly by O'Brien, with only three wins in Ireland in the last five years and having just his ninth ride of the season, Beggy will surely be the answer to many a quiz question in the future.

3. GOSDEN WAS RIGHT TO FEAR CRACKSMAN'S EXPERIENCE

John Gosden was not being wise after the event when he said he felt a lack of experience cost Cracksman his place in history. Declared to run in the Dante at York 16 days ago, Gosden got cold feet when the ground went soft, understandably fearing a tough race. Frankie Dettori never looked completely comfortable on the son of Frankel, but he deserves great credit as the only horse who raced prominently to be involved in the finish.

4. FRANKEL'S WAIT GOES ON

There was quite a lot of coverage – and hype – surrounding Frankel's progeny last year, but it is now beginning to wane and though his two representatives ran well with Cracksman third and Eminent fourth, it is fair to say many expected more. It is obviously too early to write him off, his second crop are only just touching down, but with his old foe Nathaniel having an Oaks winner with Enable, one or two will be getting impatient to see more.

5. BENBATL THE EYECATCHER

Cliffs Of Moher seemed to catch most of Aidan O'Brien's attention, but Saeed bin Suroor will surely pick up a big race somewhere with Benbatl. Second in the Dante, connections intimated then they felt they had a 10-furlong performer on their hands but they were tempted to go for gold over a mile and a half. Stone last coming around Tattenham Corner, he made up mountains of ground very quickly before his run petered out inside the final 100 yards and he finished fifth. He holds an entry in the Eclipse and certainly would not be out of place lining up in that.
