JACK ANDREWS celebrated his 18th birthday by securing the Novice Riders Championship at the final meeting of the Yorkshire Point to Point season.

Andrews, who rides for the Coward family and lives in Husthwaite, was in top form at Sedgefield racecourse, riding his first double of the season.

He won the Men's Open on Seeyouincourt which was bought privately from Ireland to kick-start his pointing career.

Andrews then followed up with a second victory aboard The Mobile Man, trained by Cherry Coward, and who confirmed his progression throughout the season.

Jack Jordan finished second in the novice championship with Will Garrity in third.

Lottie Crane won both the Ladies Novice title and leading Lady Rider in Yorkshire.

She got off the mark when Fayre Enough won the Open Maiden.

Lottie has moved to North Yorkshire from the Midlands and now stables her horses with former jockey John Dawson who had already won the Men's Open title prior to last weekend's meeting.

Scrayingham-based Andrew Nicholls secured the leading trainer's award when Monarch's Glory finished second in the Restricted race.

Ironically, his horse had been offered at Doncaster Sales just a few days earlier but was led out unsold at £6000.

Nicholls also picked up points when Jimmy High enjoyed a 'walk over' in the Open Maiden race.

Indalo Return had no other contenders in the Members race and later went on to finish third in the Restricted won by Jack Teal on 13-2 shot Milan Day. Teal had picked up a 'spare' ride on a fleeting visit to Yorkshire to attend Peter Fahey's wedding.

The Ladies Open saw an impressive display by Oh Toodles and Immy Robinson who had travelled up from the Albrighton and Woodland to take on a four strong field.

Rumble of Thunder won the Open Horse championship for trainer Charles Clark with Path to Freedom in second spot and Benton's Lad third.

Path to Freedom won the Novice Horse championship with Benton's Lad second and Yoohoof third.

Miss Emma Smith-Chaston, from Eddlethorpe near Malton, won the Tom Bannister Award for Best Family horse with Harris.

Chris Dawson won the Howard Brown Memorial for Best Homebred horse with The Dapper Prince.
