TRAINER John Gosden has Investec Derby second favourite Cracksman entered in next week's Betfred Dante Stakes at York.

Gosden's previous Derby winners - Benny the Dip and Golden Horn - also won the Dante before heading to Epsom.

Jockey Frankie Dettori rode Cracksman, sired by the great Frankel, to victory in a Derby trial two weeks ago.

It was only his second competitive race and Newmarket trainer Gosden thinks the three year old colt will be stronger mentally as a result.

"The plan is to run him in the Dante Stakes. I am very happy with him and he has come on a lot from Epsom," he said. "He has been in great form since the race and has come on a lot mentally.

"That was only his second run," Gosden added. "It is quite a big ask round Epsom on their second run. He learned an awful lot."

Owned by Anthony Oppenheimer, of Golden Horn fame, Cracksman is currently a best-priced 8-1 chance behind 2000 Guineas winner Churchill for the Derby which takes place on June 3.

The Betfred Dante, meanwhile, is one of the highlights of the three day Dante Festival which starts next Wednesday and kicks-off the Flat racing season at York.

Staged on Thursday, the Dante is a Group Two contest offering a prize fund of £165,000 and is one of ten contests at York which sit proudly within the top 200 contests in the world, according to the respected TRC Global Rankings.

Golden Horn, two seasons ago, was the last of ten Dante winners to go on to win the Investec Derby.
