PETER Fahey, son of Malton-based racing trainer Richard, won his first Point to Point at the weekend on board Station Master.

The victory was extra special for the Faheys as Station Master, which was purchased privately in Ireland, is also owned by Peter’s sister Ann-Marie.

“He feels useful and I might run him again next week,” said Fahey after his victory in the Open Maiden at the West of Yore Point-to-Point held at Askham Bryan College.

Owner Charles Clark from Wistow and jockey Jack Teal, meanwhile, scored a quick fire double in both divisions of the Confined Race with Grouse Lodge and Rumble of Thunder.

Clark acquired Rumble of Thunder from Philip Kirby after riding him in a Charity Race at Aintree last year.

“Phil was going to retire him so asked me if I wanted him for pointing,” Clark said.

Mickey Miller, under Jack Jordan, who won the Restricted Race

“He has been knocking on the door at this grade for so long,” said Jordan.

Seasoned Yorkshire campaigner Trop Fort sprung a surprise in the Mixed Open Race by beating Will Milburn’s Six A Side and Will Easterby’s Kings Lodge.

Shantou Prince, ridden by Christy Furness, returned to winning ways in the Intermediate Race.

“I hit the front sooner than I would have liked but he took me there, he has definitely come on from his run at the Sinnington” explained Furness before heading back to London to carry out his ‘day job’ as a stockbroker.

The final race on the card was the 2m 4f maiden race which brought a ‘one-two’ for trainer Andrew Nicholls.

Piloted by Will Milburn, Benton’s Lad led after the third and secured his lead from there on.

Not Far Wrong, under Billy Garritty, was the only threat to the winner and the son of Courtcave will surely be losing his maiden tag in the near future.

“He seems to be thriving off racing at the moment,” said Milburn. “He’s been coming out of his races really well!”

The West of Yore point was the first of two Yorkshire Area meetings scheduled to take place at the relatively new venue this season.

The next fixture is The Derwent at Charm Park near Scarborough on Sunday.
