IRISH trainer Tony Martin is hoping to scoop another big prize at York tomorrow when Landsman contests the £50,000 stanjames.com Stakes.

Martin enjoyed one of the finest moments of his career when Heartbreak City, ridden by Malton-based jockey Adam McNamara, won the Betfred Ebor at the Knavesmire two months ago.

The prize money for Europe's richest flat handicap was £280,000 and victory sparked scenes of wild celebration in the parade ring among the owners, 'Here for the Craic Partnership.'

Tomorrow's meeting is the first of two day's racing which bring the curtain down on the flat season at York.

Landsman, previously trained by Johnny Murtagh, will be making his first appearance on an English track after just six races in his native Ireland. It will also be his first attempt at a mile and six furlongs.

"We haven’t had him that long but he seems a nice horse, we’re quite happy with him, and he looks a nice prospect going forward," said Martin.

"We’re on a learning mission with him really on Friday and we’re just hoping he will put up a good account," he added. "Id say, the few little bits that we’ve done with him at home, he looks as if he’ll stay - that’s why we’ve stepped him up in trip.”

Reflecting on his last visit to York, Martin said: “It was a great day. Fortunately enough, it went our way on the day. It’s a close-knit operation (the Here for the Craic Partnership) and it was just very satisfactory when it worked out like that.”

Among the other 13 runners in the stanjames.com Stakes are several who have won last time out including Andrew Balding's highly-rated The Graduate, the Tim Easterby-trained Icefall, and Guns of Leros who is chasing a four-timer for Gary Moore after winning the Apprentices’ Derby at Epsom on September 25.

The bay gelding is due to go up 8lb in the weights after Saturday but is eligible to race off his old mark of 82, tomorrow, albeit 1lb out of the handicap aided by 3lb claimer Noel Garbutt.

Moore said: “The horse has been in good form and we’ve had this race kind of targeted for him. The kid takes 3(lb) off,so he’s actually 10lb well-in, if you like.

“He has a wide draw in 14 but luckily he goes forward so – all being well – he can get over that a little bit.”

Moore is also more than optimistic that the new distance of a mile and three quarters will be within range for Guns Of Leros.

“He won at Salisbury, which is a stiff mile and a half," he said. "He is just a galloper. The further he went at Epsom the other day, the further he was going away again at the end.

“That’s how we read it – he appears to be just a relentless galloper. Since I’ve been running him over a mile and a half, he has done nothing but improve.”

Tomorrow's seven race card gets underway at 1.45pm. Saturday’s racing begins at 2pm and includes the £100,000 Coral Sprint Trophy.
