THE Betfred Garrowby Stakes, a Listed race for sprinters, is set to be the highlight of the card during the annual Press Family Sunday this weekend at York racecourse.

Mr Lupton, trained by Richard Fahey, Lord of the Land, trained by David O’Meara, and Godolphin’s former Royal Ascot winner Baccarat are among the entries for the six furlong race which has a prize pot of £40,000.

The only Sunday meeting of the season at the Knavesmire, the event will offer a full day out for both the novice and the regular racegoer.

Admission is free for under 18s into all enclosures although under 16s must be accompanied by an adult.

The action on the track begins at 1pm with the respective finals in the Conditions category of the 2016 Charles Owen Pony Racing Series, showcasing the talents of the next generation of riders.

Racing under rules starts at 2.10pm and the finale is The Racecourse Challenge for Cystic Fibrosis Apprentice Stakes.at 5.10pm

The race is part of the ‘Go Racing in Yorkshire’ Future Stars Apprentice Series (now in its fourth year) which culminates in a final at Doncaster in November. Coming into the race, Yorkshire-based rider, Rowan Scott has a clear lead from Clifford Lee and Adam McNamara.

Single admission to both the Grandstand and Paddock Enclosure with the Course Enclosure is available for just £12.

Also, for this special family meeting, the County Stand dress code will be relaxed, with ‘smart casual’ being the advice.

Bouncy castles will be located around the course for children along with a funfair and a wide array of entertainment for the family.

Younger guests will also have the opportunity to meet children’s favourite, Paddington, who is visiting the Knavesmire for the first time
