PIPERS Note can overcome the burden of top weight by winning the David Chapman Memorial Handicap at Ripon's evening meeting.

Richard Whitaker's six-year-old knows this terrain well, having won four times at the North Yorkshire circuit, and must have every chance of claiming another tidy pot.

The gelded son of Piccolo has been a shade disappointing this term, but that has not gone unnoticed by the handicapper, who now has him rated 8lb lower than when he last won in June 2015.

He also showed a little more verve in the Great St Wilfrid over Ripon's six furlongs when he finished an encouraging fourth behind Nameitwhatyoulike, who had the selection's measure by just a length and a half.

Pipers Note will have absolutely no issues reverting to five furlongs, a distance at which he has won three times, while the prospect of decent ground can only be seen as a good thing.

The Wee Barra should go well in the EBF Stallions Scottish Premier Series Fillies' Handicap at Hamilton.

Kevin Ryan's four-year-old filly returned to form at Carlisle a fortnight ago when she only succumbed by a short head to Pointillism.

That was a distinct step up on recent efforts so it seems folly to scotch her chances at a racecourse where she won so well last summer off just a 2lb lower mark.

This looks a tougher assignment, but The Wee Barra has enough quality to prevail at this level.

Goring could be the one to be with in the Terry Mills & John Akehurst Handicap at Epsom.

Trained by the in-form Eve Johnson Houghton, the four-year-old was a pleasing winner at Windsor on August 1 and backed that up with a similarly useful performance at the Berkshire circuit, when fifth to Stellarta.

Goring did not really get the breaks that day, so that run perhaps deserves to be upgraded a little.

He is clearly in good heart and should be available at a working man's price.

Speculator was caught unaware by Atwix at Epsom last time but can gain atonement at Goodwood.

David Menuisier's grey colt could react quickly enough once Atwix cut loose in a good mile-and-a-half handicap, in which he ate up considerable ground late on to finish second.

The redoubtable Jimmy Fortune is unlikely to make the same mistake in the Flying School At Goodwood Stakes as Speculator looks to secure a deserved first success on the turf.

And it would be remiss not to flag up Seven Heavens in the ebfstallions.com Peter Willett "Stallion-Restricted" Conditions Stakes.

Not from a betting perspective on this occasion, but with an eye to the future and next year's Classics, as this could be the most exciting son of Frankel in training at the moment.
