THE TIN MAN can make the most of a drop in class by returning to winning form in the bet365 Hackwood Stakes at Newbury.

James Fanshawe's charge was last seen when finishing eighth of nine runners in the Diamond Jubilee at Royal Ascot and, while there was little disgrace in being beaten six lengths at Group One level, connections were surely hoping for better.

However, the ground was probably not ideal for the four-year-old as he has shown much his best form on a quicker surface than the good to soft he encountered in Berkshire and he was far too keen through the early stages.

Unsurprisingly his run petered out when the race really got going but it is perhaps best to just chalk that one up to experience and hope he can produce the kind of form that saw him win a Listed race on his seasonal bow this year and run a fine fourth behind Muhaarar at the end of last year.

Quicker ground is a definite plus and switching back to Group Three company should be another positive, although Charming Thought is expected to put up stiff opposition. Tom Queally rides today's nap selection.

Malton-based trainer Richard Fahey fields a clutch of runners as he tries to make it three wins in four years in the Weatherbys Super Sprint but the booking of Paul Hanagan for LADY IN QUESTION is a significant move.

Their relationship goes way back so the fact that Hanagan is aboard this filly makes her worth a second look.

A narrow neck winner on her sole start at Thirsk last month, this daughter of Elzaam looked the type to improve again – and while this race is something of a lottery, she could well provide the winning ticket.

SCOTTISH made a decent start for Charlie Appleby when third in the Brigadier Gerard and can get his first win on the board for his new handler in the bet365 Stakes, better known as the Steventon.

Trained by Andrew Balding last year, Scottish chased home Highland Reel in the Gordon Stakes before landing a Listed heat at Ayr.

Transferred to Godolphin over the winter, he was not beaten too far by Time Test at Sandown and should improve for the outing. James Doyle is today's pilot.

TAQAAREED, ridden by Tom Marquand, can make the transition to Listed company in the Newsells Park Stud Stakes at Newmarket.

Fifth on her debut at Sandown in May, she stepped up on that to win by seven lengths on the Kempton all-weather and looked as though she would make plenty of progress again.

A full-sister to Classic heroine Taghrooda, connections will be eager to get some all-important black type.

MOABIT has been making hay through the early summer and can bag the Betfred TV Summer Handicap Hurdle at Market Rasen, where GERMANY CALLING should also go well in the Betfred Summer Plate Handicap Chase.

There is a big day of action in Ireland, where EVEN SONG appears a worthy favourite in the Darley Irish Oaks at the Curragh.

She showed she is firmly on the upward curve when posting her best effort by far in winning the Ribblesdale at Ascot with the minimum of fuss.

Aidan O'Brien's runner had the reopposing Ajman Princess firmly beaten in Berkshire and, while a handful of other also-rans from that race take their chance again, there is little reason to think they can reverse the form.

O'Brien was quite upfront in nominating the Curragh showpiece for her in the immediate aftermath of the Royal meeting.

It is difficult to fathom what went wrong with MECCA'S ANGEL in the King's Stand at Ascot but one thing we know is she is far better than that, so stick with her in the Kilfrush Stud Sapphire Stakes.

It is also worth noting DE CORONADO as he makes his racecourse bow for O'Brien in the closing Kilsaran Maiden.

Although making a late debut as a three-year-old, this colt is a full-brother to American superstar Zenyatta and is well worth a watch.
