WAR Glory has been the subject of some promising gallops reports of late and looks ready to double his tally in the totequadpot Handicap at Chelmsford.

Second on his only juvenile start, the Richard Hannon-trained colt made it second-time lucky when scoring on the Wolverhampton Tapeta back in January as a hot favourite.

He made no mistake in defeating Eskandari by three-quarters of a length, with a further six lengths back to the third, Pirate's Treasure.

While the runner-up has not franked the form in the interim, Pirate's Treasure certainly has in notching a hat-trick.

To that end, War Glory's starting mark of 82 in the handicap sphere appears pretty fair at this stage.

A step up to a mile here looks well within his compass judged on that win and while his lengthy spell off the track is probably not ideal, the fact he has reportedly been shining at home is a definite plus.

Shamshon was a French Listed race winner in his pomp but he is on the slide at present and could be well treated in the toteexacta Handicap.

Formerly trained by the Hannon team, the five-year-old has not subsequently matched that Deauville achievement, although he has been highly tried on occasions – most notably when running at the Breeders' Cup meeting in 2013.

He missed the entirety of the 2015 season and was shipped out of Hannon's yard for 30,000 guineas last autumn, joining Jamie Osborne's team.

Shamshon has yet to really sparkle for new connections, failing to make the frame on four occasions, but he kicked off on a mark of 100 which would not have made him easy to place and his so-so efforts have already seen him tumble 10lb in the ratings.

He was not beaten far when last in a five-runner heat at Epsom last time, when the race was really not run to suit, so it could be worth persevering here.

Carpe Diem Lady is a half-sister to Shamshon and she must be one for the shortlist in the Enghouse Interactive UK Fillies' Handicap at Windsor after a couple of decent placed efforts already this term.

A daughter of Acclamation, she disappointed on her first start this year but has improved since then, having just been being touched off at Newmarket in May before finishing in the money at Newbury and Brighton.

That Newbury run is particularly noteworthy as she was only beaten three lengths by Persuasive, who has since gone on to Listed glory at Royal Ascot.

While Carpe Diem Lady's second at Brighton last time was possibly a shade disappointing, she had valid excuses after rearing at the start and expending far too much energy in trying to recover lost ground in the early stages.

Clive Cox's runner remains a horse of potential and should be followed here.

Balance won a Haydock maiden last October that has produced a handful of subsequent winners, so she is worth watching as she returns to action in the Racing UK's Profits Returned To Racing Handicap at Ayr.
