EDUCATE, ridden by Thomas Brown, has won today's 57th John Smith's Cup at York.
The 18-1 shot, owned by Sultan Ali and trained at Newmarket by Ismail Mohammed, won by just half a length from Elbereth (16-1), with Earth Drummer (20-1) in third, and Gold Trail (12-1) in fourth.
Tawdeea, trained by David O'Meara at Upper Helmsley, had started the race as 6-1 joint favourite but finished ninth.
