WHILE most trainers dread being woken up by the sound of rain hammering on their windows at this time of year, Clive Cox would be overjoyed as it can not be soft enough for My Dream Boat in the Coral-Eclipse at Sandown.

The aptly-named colt already has a Group One win to his name after a battling success over Breeders' Cup heroine Found in the Prince of Wales's Stakes at Royal Ascot.

That was only 17 days ago, and although Cox has confirmed he would have preferred the race to be a week later, the odds-on favourite The Gurka also ran at Ascot, is a year younger and attempting ten furlongs for the first time.

My Dream Boat's starting price in the Ascot Group One was a bit of an insult considering his only defeat in his last five races came behind the Japanese horse A Shin Hikari in France when, in a result that now looks too good to be true for the winner, he was given far too much to do by Gerald Mosse but was staying on strongly.

Prior to that reverse he had been progressing rapidly, including a victory over this course and distance in the Gordon Richards Stakes with Western Hymn behind him.

He is obviously a fairly late bloomer, but he really battled at Ascot and he looks sure to run a solid race.

The Gurkha probably should have won the St James's Palace Stakes as Ryan Moore was caught napping by Frankie Dettori on Galileo Gold, but the three-year-old mile division is a little muddled this year as they are all beating each other. The improving Hawkbill could be the biggest danger.

Brando can play a starring role in the Coral Charge.

Kevin Ryan's charge continued his trend of his latest run being a career-best when just touched off in the Wokingham at Ascot.

It appears that five or six furlongs comes alike to him, but crucially he is proven on soft ground.

That also means it will be a bit more of a stamina test than usual which will surely suit him.

He ideally needs a lead for as long as possible, but there should be no shortage of pace in this.

Mutamakkin looks a typical Sir Michael Stoute improver ahead of his stiffest test to date in the Coral Challenge while the Coral Distaff can go to John Gosden's daughter of Sariska, Snow Moon.

German trainer Peter Schiergen does not waste air miles lightly so if he feels Nightflower is up to competing in the Bet365 Lancashire Oaks at Haydock, the hint should be taken.

She was only beaten four lengths in the French Oaks behind Star Of Seville last year and won a Group One at Cologne against the boys.

Disappointing first time out this season, that may just have been a prep run for this.

Penglai Pavilion is an interesting runner for Godolphin in the Bet365 Old Newton Cup.

With win in the Lincoln and Northumberland Plate already this season, Godolphin certainly seem to be targeting the big handicaps.

A decent hurdler for John Ferguson, his stamina was stretched in the Ascot Stakes but this trip should be fine.

We should not forgot he was not beaten far in the 2013 Arc by Treve.

Richard Fahey's Prying Pandora can open her account in the EBF Breeders Hope Against Cancer Rating Related Maiden Stakes at Leicester while at Beverley Dream On Dreamer should be suited by the step up in trip in the Award-Winning Coachman Caravans Maiden Auction Stakes.

The best bet at Carlisle's evening meeting is Vaux in the Story Contracting Novice Median Auction Stakes with Kings Gold of significant interest in the Blackjack Aces Jackpot Classified Stakes at Nottingham.
