SOMEHOW is a tentative choice to cause a minor upset in the Investec Oaks at Epsom.

Aidan O'Brien's filly has enjoyed an ideal prep for the mile-and-a-half- Classic, but has gone under the radar, with stable companion Minding justifiably taking top billing.

Minding was hugely impressive in winning the 1000 Guineas at Newmarket and was immediately installed as a warm order to follow up at Epsom.

However, a late change of plan to run in the Irish 1,000 Guineas in the meantime following the defection of Ballydoyle backfired, with Minding suffering a narrow defeat to Jet Setting, a filly who had trailed in her wake on the Rowley Mile.

It later transpired Minding had suffered a minor head injury after an incident in the stalls, while the testing conditions she encountered at the Curragh were also far from ideal.

Her odds for Epsom have lengthened marginally following that shock defeat, but with significant rain having fallen on the Downs during the week, it will be a brave man who takes close to even-money about a filly who is turning out less than a fortnight later with questions to answer.

Somehow, on the other hand, is a more attractive double-figure price and has done nothing wrong in two starts so far this season.

The daughter of Fastnet Rock admirably handled the Leopardstown mud to beat subsequent dual winner Shamreen in early April, before justifying cramped odds in the Cheshire Oaks.

O'Brien has saddled five Oaks winners and the last two, Was (2012) and Qualify (2015), were not the number one hopes for the stable.

Somehow has proved her ability to handle varying ground conditions, she is almost certain to get the trip and is open to plenty of improvement, so she ticks plenty of boxes.

Arod is a more confident selection as he bids for back-to-back victories in the Investec Diomed Stakes.

Peter Chapple-Hyam's stable star claimed this Group Three prize in most impressive fashion 12 months ago and went on to land the Summer Mile at Ascot before pushing the brilliant Solow close in the Sussex Stakes at Goodwood.

An Australian adventure later in the year proved disappointing, but he got his career back on track with an encouraging comeback third at Ascot in April and that should leave him cherry-ripe for his return to Epsom.

Runaway Leicester scorer Hyperfocus gets the nod in the Investec Woodcote Stakes, while Dark Red can notch his fourth win in a row in the Investec Wealth & Investment Stakes.

Owaseyf rates the best bet at Catterick in the EBF Stallions Breeding Winners Fillies' Handicap.

A rare runner at the North Yorkshire circuit for trainer Roger Varian, the three-year-old beat a couple of useful sorts on her Redcar debut and an opening mark of 75 looks workable.

Admirable mare Edged Out can win for a third time at Bath in the Bath Ales Gem Handicap, while Hammer Gun is taken to carry the colours of the Queen to victory in the Napoleons Casinos & Restaurants Sheffield Supporting WPCC Handicap at Doncaster.

Recent Salisbury winner Dancing Star has a good opportunity to continue her progress in Goodwood's EBF Stallions Breeding Winners Fillies' Stakes.
